Another splendid camp run by Wild New Forest and attended by 16 young and enthusiastic participants.

They explored the forest, heathland and marshes of the New Forest and carried out activities including bird ringing (under BTO license), Bio Blitzes, bird watching, moth trapping and many wildlife walks, observing nature around them.  There were also talks on wildlife as well as a talk on future careers and further education in conservation.  A blog from one of the participants to follow here. A fun packed itinerary included the following:

  • ringed Brambling, Hawfinch, Kingfishers, Treecreeper, Grey Wagtail, Nathatch and others
  • nighttime activities included hearing bats with bat detectors and hearing Snipe’s drumming flight sound
  • at Lymington Marshes they saw Spoonbill, Spotted Redshank, Med Gulls, Avocets, Lapwing, Ringed Plover, Great Crested Grebe, Brent Geese, Eider and many more
  • other discoveries: Palmate Newt and many types of Lichen
